Food processing industries have dominated the list of Africa's top 50 consumer product companies, according to the latest Deloitte report.
Dubbed African Powers of Consumer Product 2016, the inaugural report indicates that 32 of the firms are food companies followed by 14 beverage companies.
The situation indicates a "strong link between consumer business and the agricultural sector as well as the large share of household income spent on food," states the report, which was launched on Monday.
The Deloitte analysis covered Africa-based companies that are listed on the stock exchange.
The company revenue ranged between $147.7 million and $2.6 billion in 2015. Tanzania Breweries Ltd (TBL) is the only company from Tanzania, which made it into the list while 64 per cent of the top 50 companies are from South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria and Morocco.
"I think it's because most Tanzanian companies are not listed...Otherwise, we could see Bakhresa, Mohamed Enterprises and others," said Deloitte director, advisory Mr Carlton Jones.
TBL was ranked 19th in terms of revenue, but second top by profitability after Egypt-based Eastern Tobacco Co.
