South African Revenue Services (SARS) customs officials have seized 30 kilograms of cocaine at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
SARS Spokesperson Sandile Memela says the drugs were seized in two separate hauls.
He says they are valued at over R9 million.
"In the first incident, a woman coming from Sao Paulo in transit to Mozambique was arrested after the luggage revealed irregular images. 90 wooden sticks were found in boxes concealing a white substance which tested positive for cocaine. A total of 24kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of over R7 million was confiscated."
Memela adds: "In the second incident, custom officials intercepted 6.3kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of almost R2 million concealed in the base of a passenger’s luggage. The passenger was also in transit to Mozambique from Sao Paulo."
In July, 15 drug mules were arrested in what was the fourth major drug-bust at the airport in that month alone.
The arrest came as police and the security cluster battle with on-going robberies and other white collar crimes.
