Tanzania President John Magufuli said he will ensure that to connect 7,800 villages are connected with electricity in his first rule in office by 2020.

He said at the lunch of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) construction in Dodoma at Ihumwa village in Dodoma region Wednesday.

The president said outlined the projects under construction as including Standard Gauge Railway(SGR), Stigler Gorge, airports construction, tarmac roads, fly over, Hoima-Tanga gas pipeline, and many others including Rural Energy Agency (REA).

“The completion of all these projects would help facilitate the industrialization programme to take the country to a middle-income status,” he said.

The president said with these projects, the government will be able to create numerous job opportunities and small-scale business will benefit from activities.

The president said Tanzania was closing the gap of unemployment challenges saying he could also ensure that the majority public has access to clean and safe drinking water.

He also pointed out that the government has disbursed Sh483 billion loans to students of higher learning institutions in the country adding that at least Sh23.8 million was being spent daily on free education.

According to the president, he was concerned that the government was feeding the majority of the prisoners instead of them being productive.

“Make sure that all prisoners in the country are cultivating their own farms, we have large acres of arable land in the country, let them farm in the field,” the president directed the commissioner of prisons in the country.
