ALL youth who participated in the construction of a 24km square fence in Mererani area will be recruited by security and defense forces, the Commanding in Chief and Tanzania’s President Dr. John Magufuli has ordered.
Speaking during the inauguration of the wall today at Mererani, President Magufuli said he was impressed with their job which was conducted within four months only.
Construction of the said wall was done by military men from Tanzania People Defense Forces, National Services, and Suma JKT and more than 2,000 from operation Jakaya Kikwete and John Magufuli.
“I direct defense forces and security organs to recruit all youth( 2,038) who would like to join in the army or police because they have done a good job and I have nothing to pay them, he said.
President Magufuli urged the defense forces to continue protecting Tanzania’s natural resources and its boundaries.
Citing he said 40 percent of tanzanite gemstone which mined in Mererani area have been stolen since 1967 before construction of the wall.
“You defense forces should take the role of protecting this wall and natural resources so as to ensure that it benefits Tanzanians and not otherwise,” he stated.
Speaking earlier, the Chief of Defense Forces Venance Mabeyo, thanked all youth from the two operations who participated in the construction of the wall.
He said apart from Mererani, the youth have also participated well in the construction of a similar wall in the Ngerengere area within Morogoro region.
“They have constructed a 14 km square wall and the job is in its final stage, we thank you very much “, said Mabeyo.
This is the second time for President Magufuli to order employment in the security forces.
Commissioning 422 TPDF officers in Arusha last year, President Magufuli ordered immediate employment of 3,000 new military men (particularly those who attended National Service) in the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces.
The President assured that his government is going to improve the armed forces to enable members to deal with any threats to the country.
