Somali pirates have resumed their attacks on foreign vessels as this Friday a Singaporean chemical vessel was attacked off Somalia, Reuters has reported.

Quoting the European Union’s Naval force, the British media said suspected Somali pirates attacked a Singaporean-flagged chemical tanker but security personnel managed to repel them.

The EU Naval force said in a statement that the Singaporean –flagged carrying 50,000metric tonne MT Leopard Sun was sailing from Sohar in Oman to Cape Town, South Africa, when it was attacked by two skiffs 160 nautical miles (295 km) off the coast of Somalia.

The EU Navfor said the suspected pirates approached from the stern and fired upon a ship prompting private guards in a ship to respond with warning shots.

In what the EU Navfor says the attack was of pirate related, the shooting went for almost 20 minutes to the time the vessels and crew became calm.

The last piracy incident happened in November 2017, reports the EU Navfor.
