THE government said today that the agriculture sectoral development programme (ASDP) phase II launched this week aims at providing training to famers to enable them leap more from their produce.
Premier Kassim Majaliwa said in parliament that said the programme will also ensure that farmers produce more for local industries.
The premier said the in the programme farmers will be give more priority especially those involved in crop production so as to boost industrialisation agenda.
He was responding to an impromptu question today in parliament raised to him by Civic United Front (CUF) legislator Rashid Ali Abdallah.
The legislator wanted to know plans by the government to transform agricultural sector and reduce poverty to majority Tanzanians who are farmers.
At least 75 per cent of the country’s population are small-scale farmers living in rural areas.
