Bunge news: Govt will not publicly announce salary increment

By Emmanuel Onyango

PREMIER Kassim Majaliwa said today that the government will increase civil servants salaries without making public announcement as that has often led to increase in goods and services.

The premier made a statement in parliament following an impromptu question raised to him by special seat legislator for Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) Suzan Lyimo who wanted to know plans by the government to promote workers’’ salaries and other remunerations.

Majaliwa said his government was striving to improve working environment for public workers by giving them annual increments and repaying the outstanding arrears.

“The president would increase the salary any time, but now we are concentrating on mega projects for the benefit of the nation,” he said.

He added, “The government is keen to promote workers’ welfare, it was not a must for the government to announce salary increment to public servants.”
