PASTORALISTS are set to benefit from a programme that intends to ensure that their livestock especially cows fetches higher prices on the market.
Deputy minister for fisheries Abdallah Ulega said today in parliament that the government has mounted a feeding plan for herders livestock in government ranches.
“Each cow will fetch Sh10,000 to be fed in the ranch for a period of one month,” the deputy minister said.
Such livestock will be fed at a ranch in Longido district, Arusha region so that cows do not die of hunger resulting from drought and lack of feeds.
The deputy minister was responding to a question raised by Chama Cha Mapinduzi Member of Parliament for Longido constituency Dr. Steven Kiluswa who wanted to know strategies by the government to build ranches in herders’ areas.
“The government is aware of the contributions made by pastoralists in the country, we want to assist them with their livestock, the only way for their economic development,” he said.
