THE parliament has threatened to revoke contracts to all contractors implementing the rural electrification project under Rural Energy Agency (REA) if they fail to accomplish work on time.
It directed contractors to report to their site to accomplish rural energy electrification if they are to be awarded other tenders.
“We are giving priorities to all government institutions including schools and hospitals. We have directed all district council authorities to closely follow this,” the deputy minister for Energy Subira Mgalu said.
He was responding to a question earlier raised Mbulu rural legislator Flatei Masay who wanted to know the reasons for failing to connect 76 villages with the electricity in the district where only 12 villages have so far benefitted from the project.
Responding, the minister said REA projects will connect all the villages in the country adding that the government has already put strategies to commence REA phase III project.
