PARLIAMENTARIANS have expressed their disappointments over the stalled dam construction projects in their constituencies saying the government need to secure funds to revive them.
They told the Minister of Water and Irrigation Isack Kamwelwe in the parliament today during a question and answer session to make visitation to the stalled sites and experience by himself.
A legislator for Chama Cha Mapiduzi (CCM) in Hanang, Mary Nagu, Joseph Selesini for Rombo (CCM), Suzan Lyimo special seat (Chadema), Leah Jertemiah Komanya special seat (CCM), Mwita Waitara for Ukonga (Chadema) were among those who raised the queries.
Responding, Minister Kamwelwe promised to visit the constituencies and take drastic measures to revive the projects and accomplish them before the end of this year.
“The will revamp all irrigation schemes to increase agriculture production as this was a new technology being applied in many countries to improve food security,” he said.
Earlier, special seat legislator for Chadema in Moshi constituency Shayrose Raymond wanted to know why several dam construction projects in the country had been stalled.
Responding, the minister said the government was seeking for reliable experts to help implement the projects while directing all district council’s authorities to do the same in their respective areas.
