TANZANIA is set to link its neighbouring in Malawi and Zambia by tarmac roads and already Sh10bn has been set for the project.
Tanzania Roads Agency (Tanroads) will ensure that the project isimplemeted, the parliament was told this morning during a question and answer session.
Deputy Minister for Works, Transport and Communications, Elias Kwandikwa said in parliament where he said the government knows the importance of the road.
“We understand its importance and that is why we are making all the vigour and zeal to esnure the Mpemba-Ileje road is constructed to a tarmac level,” he said.
He said the project for the construction of Mpemba-Isongole section has already commenced.
The deputy minister was respodning to a question raised by Chadema legislator Frank Mwakajoka who asked why the government was yet to implement the construction of the road.
The legislator said in 2017/18 financial year, the government set aside Sh4.455for the Mpemba-Ileje section, and another Sh10bn was set aside for the project in 2018/19fiscal year on the project.
