Tanzania’s Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ernest Mangu, has called upon members of the public to support and cooperate with his successor, Mr Simon Sirro, in countering criminal incidents in the country, particularly in Coast Region.
The ex-IGP, who is awaiting to be assigned other duties, said he has known Mr Sirro as a hard worker, who could carry out his duties to ensure Tanzania was peaceful.
When asked about his call to the new IGP, Mr Sirro, following tense situations in Rufiji and Kibiti districts in Coast Region, Mr Mangu said, "Sirro knows what he is supposed to do on that. I have worked with him very closely. What I need is for the police and the public to give him support."
Prior to his new appointment, Mr Sirro was Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone Commander and Regional Police Commander (RPC) in Tanga, Mwanza and Shinyanga.
Thereafter, Mr Sirro worked at the Police Operation and Training Department at the Police Headquarters before he was transferred to Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone at the same department, where he became the Commander of the Special Police Zone.
