Govt stresses each region to have 100 industries this year

REGIONAL executives have been challenged to ensure they sensitise their communities for the construction of 100 industries in their areas by end of this year.

Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Selemani Jafo said soon after receiving working tools provided to youth groups at Kiluvya Ward by Plan International under its Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) project.

Other groups that received the European Union support included those from Malumbo and Kurui wards in Kisarawe district, Coast Region.

The minister said it was crucial for all regions to have 100 industries with a capital of betweeb Sh2.5m to Sh10m each to enable create employment to the majority youths.

He said the beneficiaries of YEE project involves tailors, welding mechanics, cookers, decorators and electric technicians who can use their profession to lower unemployment rate in the country.

On his part, the YEE Project Manager Simon Ndembeka said a total of 37 groups in Kisarawe District have benefited with the project

He said the three-year project established in 2015 being sponsored by the European Union under Plan International is implemented in four regions in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Lindi, and Mtwara.

Launching the one-year nationwide campaign aimed at mobilising regions to construct at least 100 small and medium industries last November, in Dodoma, Jafo said each region needed to outline priority of industries based on raw materials and markets availability.

“Regional authorities should mobilise groups and individuals on industrialisation to attain the goal of constructing 50 small industries and 50 medium industries each region by December this year,” said the minister.

Under the theme, ‘Kiwanda Changu, Mkoa Wangu,’ (My Industry, My Region), the campaign is also geared towards raising public awareness on investment opportunities available in every region

Jafo pointed out that the government through Tamisemi portfolio and the ministry of industry and trade would create a conducive environment for investment in every region to attain the goal.
