Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli today has sworn- in Simon Nyakoro Sirro, new Tanzania Inspector General (IGP). The ceremony was held at State House in Dar es Salaa, where the President personally bestowed the new rank of IGP to Simon Sirro . Before this top police rank he was Police Commander in charge for Dar es Salaam special zone.
According to Chief Secretary Ambassador John Kijazi, former IGP Ernest Mangu will be allocated for another post. Mangu was appointed Chief of Tanzania Police Force by the former President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete in December 2013 succeeding Said Mwema after official retirement from the force.
Before becoming IGP, Mangu was the director of Criminal Intelligence in the Force.
The sacking of Ernest Mangu is reportedly follows the ongoing killings of Police Officers and civilians including local leaders in Coastal Region and various areas in he country
Mangu was born in 1959 and raised at Ikhanuda village in Singida Region of central Tanzania to a Nyatutu family.
He joined the Moshi Police Academy on 17 August 1982 for basic police training and completed in June 1983. In 1987, he joined the University of Dar es Salaam pursuing law at a certificate level. Later, he was admitted for a bachelor degree program and graduated in November 1992 and conferred with LLB. In June 2010, Mangu was awarded masters degree in Security Affairs by National Defense University after completing his studies
