Mbeya Urban constituency lawmaker Joseph Mbilinyi ‘alias Sugu’ and Tanzania’s leading opposition party (Chadema) ward secretary for the Southern Highlands zone, Emmanuel Masonga, appeared in court again Monday for uttering abusive words against President John Magufuli.
The two were first brought to a court in Mbeya last Friday but were denied bail and remanded in prison.
The Magistrate presiding the case, Mteite, said during hearing proceedings that the case needs to be heard concurrently within a short period of time.
“This court is eager to hear the case in one-week time, the accused will therefore continue to stay in remand prison,” Magistrate Mteite said.
Sugu and Masonga are accused of uttering bad language at a political rally convened by the two on December 30, 2017 at Mwenge Primary school ground in Mbeya city; the words are purported to be against President John Magufuli.
