AT last the chairperson of opposition ACT Wazalendo in Tanzania, Anna Mghwira has defected to the ruling CCM five months after she was appointed as Regional Commissioner for Kilimanjaro region.
Mghwira who was appointed as RC by President John Magufuli in June this year has announced her decision today in Dodoma during annual general meeting of CCM women wing (UWT) .
She become a third member from ACT Wazalendo to cross over to CCM others are Prof Kitila Mkumbo and Samson Mwigamba
Announcing the decision before President Magufuli , Mghwira said she was satisfied with the way Tanzania is moving at the moment.
“President Magufuli who is also CCM National Chairman has been forefront in the fight against corruption and make sure Tanzanians benefit with their country has enticed me to join the party, she said.
She said Dr Magufuli has managed to change the country and its status for the few years since was elected as a President.
Speaking earlier , President Magufuli asked CCM members to avoid corruptions practices during election campaigns.
“At the moment there are election in our party, I urge members to shun away from corruption, choose the leader from your heart not because of anything else,” he said.
However Magufuli warned that the party would not hesitate to take hefty measures against any member found to engage in corruption practices.
Few days after President Magufuli appointed opposition members in his government , the ACT Wazalendo showed its concerns , noting that the move threatens the strength of the party.
Dr Magufuli appointed Mkumbo as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Water .
