The newly appointed Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Yakubu Hassan Mohamed has pledged to continue upholding discipline of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF).
He made the pledge immediately after having been sworn in by President, and Commander in-Chief of the Armed forces Dr John Magufuli at a colorful ceremony held today at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
“This is in line with the laid down strategic means aimed to successfully implement the vision earlier announced by the Commander of Defense Forces (CDF) General Venance Mabeyo of streamlining the activities in the army,” said the new Chief of Staff, Mohamed.
Before he was sworn in, the President had promoted him from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General and shortly afterwards was sworn in to take the charge of his new office.
Today’s swearing in of the newly appointed Chief of Staff went alongside with the promotion of other ten senior military officers who were promoted from the rank of Brigadier Generals to Major Generals.
At the occasion, General Mabeyo described the event for being a unique one and the first of its kind to have ever happened at the State House for ten military officers to be promoted at once. The CDF has also urged the appointees to take diligent charge of the office responsibly.
Speaking before the Commander in-Chief, Senior military officers of security and defence forces and other guests, CDF General Mabeyo said the newly promoted Major General J.G.Kingu takes over the position left by Lt. Gen Mohammed and becomes a new Commandant of the army at headquarter
Others who were promoted to the rank of Major Generals are M.S Busungu, R.R Mrangira, B.K. Masanja, G.T. Msongole, A.F.Kapinga, K.P.Njelekela, A.S.Bahati, M.E.Mkingule and S.S.Makona.
The ten are now commanding their capacity as Major Generals with effect from today and will be deployed to their new working stations later, said General Mabeyo.
