ARUMERU residents in Arusha region have asked the government to make education on standards awareness campaign be sustainable in order to enable a wider participation of Tanzanians.
Speaking, a resident identified as Nassoro Njuki, said many people are not aware about standards of goods and services .
“The government organs should conduct such awareness campaign to make more people understands on the importance of standards,” he said.
He urged Tanzanians to use quality approved products for the benefits of their health and nation’s development.
Last week officials of Tanzania Bureau of Standards conducted an awareness campaign on certified products and procedures to get quality mark of standards in the district where more than 3,000 people took part.
Speaking the Senior Marketing Manager of TBS Gladness Kaseka said the campaign aimed at educating public on roles of the standard body to the public.
She said they have visited the area for the past two days and educate residents on various activities such as modern accredited laboratories and free services available for the entrepreneurs.
Some people who attended the campaign were entrepreneurs, secondary school students and general public.
She said awareness campaign plays a crucial role to the residents particularly manufacturers since most of them do not understand procedures to be followed in order to secure certificate of quality assurance from TBS .
She said the standard body would continue educating SMEs on importance of quality mark and ways to get it for the purpose of market penetration of their goods outside the country.
Every year the government set aside substantial amount of money which is spent to support SMEs who intend to get quality mark for free, she said.
According to her ,SMEs are exempted from paying fees related to certification because of their low financial base, hence it is the intention of the government to see that small producers are enabled to sell their products anywhere in the world.
She promised that TBS will strive to safeguard the Tanzania market by ensuring that substandard products from abroad will not be allowed to enter the local market.
