The government said it would take stern measures against the contractor tasked with the construction of the terminal building at the Songwe International Airport in Mbeya.
Deputy Minister for Works, Transport and Communications, Atashasta Nditiye said while inspecting the airport building project being undertaken by DB Shapriya.
“I direct the Tanzania Airport Authority to take legal action against the contractor because the government has already paid him since February 2015,” he said.
He said to-date; the contractor has not finished the project that was supposed to be done within eight months.
The minister said the government would report the contractor to the Contractors Registration Board (CRB) for disciplinary actions.
In another development, Minister for Works, Transport and Communications Prof Makame Mbarawa expressed his concerns over delays in implementing the 28km road project from Urambo to Kaliua in Tabora Region.
He asked the contractor to speed up the construction of the Sh. 37.6 bn project being undertaken by Samota, Anam and Jossam JV, which is way behind the completion time.
"I want to see the pace in all the projects, please shun away from the go-slow trend or risk being sidelined by the government,” the minister said.
