THE Tanzania electric supply company limited (Tanesco) is likely add its power capacity to the national grid following a request by a local company to sell the product to the firm hence reduces the problem of unnecessary cut.
According to the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura), a local company identified as Ninety Two limited has shown interest to sell electricity to Tanesco.
An official of the authority has said the company intends to sell 1.9 MW hydropower to the Tanesco .
Already Ewura has issued notice inviting public to comment on the application forwarded by Ninety Two Limited to supply electricity to Tanesco.
The regulator said any people who has any comments or objections to the application can submit it in writing not late than 10th December 2017.
Ninety two Limited which would operate from Pinyinyi ward in Ngorongoro district Arusha region has requested for a provisional electricity generation license of three years
However according to the Minister for Energy Dr Medard Kalemani under Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is set to cover 7,873 villages out of 12,268 in the country which are still without power.
He said by 2021, all villages in the country will be connected to the National Grid adding that by June last year, about 4,395 villages countrywide had been connected to the national grid.
