Tanzania President John Magufuli has directed the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing and all regional Commissioners countrywide to repossess all dormant industries which did not started operation since they were privatized.
Dr Magufuli issued directives in Tanga today when launching a new cement factory known as Kilimanjaro which is based in the region.
He said he has been talking to the Minister about repossession of the idle factory for a long time, but still nothing has been done
“I want you Minister Mwijage to repossess all idle industries which stayed for a long time without production and give it to other serious investors for economic development of our country,” he said.
President Magufuli also said similar action should be taken by all Regional Commissioners countrywide to make sure that all factories become operational.
“I ask you Regional Commissioners to asses all idle industries and reclaim back, give to other interested investors, he said.
Regarding state of the economy, Dr Magufuli said more efforts were needed to make it vibrant like some African countries.
Ethiopia records the highest economic growth in the world which now stand at 8.3 per year followed by India at 7.2 and Tanzania at 7.2 percent.
“Economic performance in Ethiopia is higher than other countries because it did not privatise some of its national firms such as telecommunication, railway or commercial banks, like we did,” he said.
However Magufuli asked all Ministers to collaborate and work on various challenges which hinders smooth economic development such as issuance of work permit for foreigners and power blues.
