Tanzanian Energy and Water Utilities Authority (EWURA) plans to open a new Zonal office in southern highlands of the country to bring closer services and reduce unnecessary costs to its customers.
Speaking to Azania Post, the authority’s head of Communication and Public Relations, Titus Kaguo, said the preparation to the opening of the new office in Mbeya region is under way, and it will serve the customers in the region and from others in the Southern Highland Zone.
He cited the regions where the beneficiaries to the new office will come from, including Iringa, Rukwa, Katavi, Ruvuma and Mbeya regions. “We expect to commence the services before the end of this year, our clients will be able to seek for licence and related services there instead of coming to Dar es Salaam head office”, he said.
In a related move, he said the authority has launched the new portal dubbed license order information system (LOIS). The portal manages applications for electricity, petroleum and water licenses and tariff.
According to him, by using the portal an applicant can apply services issued by EWURA online.
The regulation of electricity is one of many important activities for EWURA in fulfilling the dreams of the government under President, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli, of making an industrialized country by 2025.
