Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Prof Jumanne Maghembe is tomorrow expected to grace this year’s International Tourism and Industry fair famously as KILIFAIR that will take place at Ushirika grounds, Moshi Municipality.
KILIFAIR promotion company director, Dominic Shoo, said the three-day event dubbed: ‘Your Gateway to East-Africa Tourism’ provides a networking platform for stakeholders from around the globe to share experiences, establish new business relations and improve existing contacts.
“The KILIFAIR 2017 is representing and promoting the Kilimanjaro Region-the home of Mt Kilimanjaro, Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA)_ and East Africa Tourism to potential agents and buyers from Africa, Europe, America and Asia…” he explained.
According to Shoo, the event has attracted more than 300 exhibitors compared with the last year’s event where there was only 260 exhibitors; including 280 tour companies (last year there were 150 of them) from countries such as USA, Canada, South Africa and some European ones which are here to find partners for business in the country.
“Also, more than 4,000 domestic visitors are expected to visit the three day Tourism Fair which has became the biggest and most important Tourism Trade fair in East Africa whereby Tourist Boards of Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Kenya; among many others are going successfully promoted their countries and attractions…” Shoo further explained.
He added that, almost 100 exhibitors are from outside Tanzania this year, the issue that will boost tourism marketing in East Africa, and in the International Trade fairs in Europe.
“The KILIFAIR team will attend major fairs such as Magical Kenya, Pearl of Africa Uganda, WTM London, ITB Germany and WTM Cape town to move the industry,” he further explained.
For his part, Tom Kunkler, another director from KILIFAIR Promotions explained, apart from the Moshi International fair, they had already introduced another indoor Tourism Expo, innovated and hosted by the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) known as Swahili International Tourism Expo (S!TE).
“The S!TE will take place at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar-es-salaam from October 13th to 15th this year whereby, the fair will host approximately 150 exhibitors from more than 13 different countries, including Tanzania Mainland, Zanzibar, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Mauritius and Seychelles..” Kunler explained.
According to him, the Expo focuses on the inbound and outbound travel industry to and within Africa whereby hundreds of Travel and Tourism professionals from all over the World are expected to attend during expo days.
Kunkler named some of the highlights to be promoted in the S!TE as all 16 Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) and 17 game reserves, Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru, the Island of Zanzibar-Culture and beach holidays, Conservation and Sustainable tourism, Tropical Tourism and Indian Ocean countries, and Expats and business travel within East Africa; among many others.
