THE World Travel Awards (WTA) has announced Tanzania's Thanda Island as Africa’s leading luxury Isle which had attracted many people for its services which are only affordable to richest persons.
According to award organizers, the Island has rooms which can accommodate up to ten occupants to privately book as a group at a price of $10,000 ( shillings 22 million) per night.
A privately owned marine reserve found within Tanzania’s Shungi Mbili Island is accessible from Mafia Island by water or air transport.
Thanda Island is 8hectare in size and is located 30km east of the mainland of Tanzania, opposite the Rufiji River Delta.
It is surrounded by coral reefs, which protect Thanda Island from massive waves and heavy seas. This adds to the Island's suitability for children.
The name 'Mafia’ is derived from the Arabic morfiyeh, meaning group or archipelago, and from the Swahili mahali pa afya, meaning a healthy dwelling-place.
Some of the facilities found within the Island are tennis court, bird walk, outdoor BBQ & cocktail bar, bonfire pits, breakfast boma (outside area), traditional pizza oven, arabian Beduin tent & furnishings, cigar humidor, glass rim-flow pool, outdoor baths & showers.
Others are copper beach baths, treatment Spa beds, sea fish aquarium, music, steinway grand piano & guitars, book collections, wireless internet, mobile phone network, air-conditioned gym, floodlit Tennis court, table tennis, yoga Sala, stargazer, snorkelling, scuba diving on request,
The list also include sailing boats, deep sea fishing boat, fishing equipment, jet skis, kayaks / stand-up pedal boards, wakeboards / tubes /water skis, beach volleyball equipment, outdoor and indoor, games for Children,bird Walk and a helicopter Pad.
