MOST entrepreneurs from Kibondo district in Kigoma region do not have enough knowledge on procedures used to certify quality of products as a results fail to secure local market and beyond East African region .
This was said by the Kibondo district administrative secretary Ayubu Sebalile when he met with officials of Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) who visited him after conducting standards awareness campaign in his area.
Sebalile said awareness campaign plays a crucial role to the Kibondo residents particularly manufacturers since most of them do not understand procedures to be followed in order to secure certificate of quality assurance from standard watchdog.
He said standard awareness education should be sustainable in order to reach more people and commended TBS for doing the job at district level.
On her part, the standard’s senior public relations officer, Roida Andusamile, said for the past one week the campaign at district level has reached 6,250 people in Bahi, Manyoni, Nzega and Kibondo districts.
She said they have visited secondary school students at Bahi in Dodoma , Itigi in Singida and Malagarasi in Kigoma regions.
They also visited Bahi, Chikuyu, Kibondo and Nzega local markets and met with various local entrepreneurs in the said areas.
Andusamile said residents were informed on importance of standards when they intend to make any purchase including on how to identify approved quality products standard mark.
On students, she said standard awareness education has been issued to enable students understand the sector at tender age hence become ambassadors.
The entrepreneurs were educated on procedures used to get their products approved before export outside the region.
