At least 28 best students have been supported by the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Fund to pursue studies in various higher learning institutions in Tanzania since started operations four years ago, the management has said.

The Fund’s management said most of beneficiaries are students who pursue medicine in various higher learning institutions in Tanzania.

“We have about 14 students who got the scholarship in medicine in various universities while the rest studied various courses namely oil and gas, architecture, economy, accountancy and ICT,” said an official.

The official urged parents to continue encouraging their children to study hard in order to enable Tanzania reach an industrialized economy in the year 2025.

The Fund which is under the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) was established in the year 2013 aimed to support best eligible students to pursue higher education.

Recently the Central bank invited students to apply for the sponsorship, but it was not known total number of them who sent application until the exercise closed down last month.

Earlier the deadline set for application was August 16 this year, but it was forwarded to September 15, 2017

However last time BoT announced to sponsor ten best students through Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Beneficiaries’ grants are the best female Tanzanian students who have completed and passed advanced Secondary Education in this year, they will be sponsored to pursue undergraduate studies in Mathematics and Science to accredited universities within the country.

BoT said the Funds partly used to sponsor both male and female Tanzanians top students to pursue undergraduate studies in Economics, Information Technology, Accounting and Finance as well as best students intending to pursue Master’s programmes in those fields.

Primary objective of the Fund is to promote interest and excellence in Mathematics and Science courses among female students in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Scholarships are granted on academic merit and based on a rigorous selection process.

According to BoT successful applicants are granted full scholarship which covers all university direct cost (tuition fees) and student direct costs (meal, accommodation, book and stationery allowance, field practical training, special faculty requirement as specified in the respective institutions ‘costs structure including a laptop computer.
