THE Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) through Government funding is in the early phases of constructing a laboratory complex that would support its activities.
TAEC has set aside a piece of land with utilities for construction of the laboratory complex. Also the government of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), has committed part of funds through normal budget system.
The laboratory complex will provide services for routine radio-analytical and testing for regulatory and promotional function of TAEC as well as support universities, research centers, mineral processing, and industrial applications in the region.
The laboratories will include nuclear analytical laboratories comprising of alpha, beta and gamma spectrometry, XRF, XRD, Mossber and Radio chemistry laboratories.
Tests and Calibration laboratories consisting of secondary standard dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL), personal monitoring and cytogenetic laboratory, non destructive testing (NDT) laboratories.
Others are nuclear instrumentation maintenance laboratory, nuclear safety, security, safeguards and emergency response, inspection, enforcement, mining, safety matters, authorization, and enforcement;
Physical analysis laboratory; earth and mineral analysis laboratory; radioactive wastes analysis laboratory; consumables for each laboratories radiation protection for in-house training and outreach program.
