About 147 pupils at Muungano Primary School in Lindi Municipality are studying in one classroom against the required standards of one classrooms for 45 pupils.
The school’s secretary, Mr Keven Mringo, said this when he was speaking during a visit by Lindi Member of Parliament Mr Hasan Kaunje, who inspected a construction of a classroom.
He had donated 50 bags of cement and 500 bricks for construction of a classrooms.
According to Mr Mringo the pupils are forced to study in two sessions. The situation isn’t worse for Standard one pupils only but also for standard two, where 82 pupils are forced to study in one classroom.
The school head teacher Esha Majumba said the school committee has been sensitizing wananchi to contribute in addressing challenges, which has been encountering education sector, which include lack of classrooms.
“You know we have launched a campaign requiring parents to contribute towards construction of classrooms; the campaign is called ‘one brick builds’; parent, guardian should contribute to improve learning environment,” said Majumba
