THE Minister for Health and Community Development, Gender, Children and Elderly Ummy Mwalimu said today that the government has enough stock of antiretroviral drugs for all HIV/Aids patients.
She said in parliament while responding to a supplementary question poise to her by a Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) special seat legislator Catherine Magige who wanted to know government’s plans to help patients suffering from HIV/AIDS.
Responding, Mwalimu noted that patients facing problems of the drugs was a result of eating a balanced food especially to those living in rural areas.
Expert recommends that proper diet was a crucial to all HIV patients on antiretroviral drug.
The minister said the government was striving hard to sensitize male youths for voluntary testing to know the number of people with the virus and provide them with drugs.
“The government is looking into ways of purchasing special testing device for males which will test their sample of saliva to determine their HIV status in 15 minutes,” the minister said.
According to her, the devices will ensure that every patient has access to antiretroviral drugs.
