THE government has appealed to the public to report any incident of conjoined children births in their localities to enable the government arrange proper procedures including possibilities of separating them.
Minister for health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children Ummy Mwalimu said today in parliament.
She was responding to a question earlier raised in parliament if she was aware of conjoined children births in Kagera region and the actions being taken by the government so far.
Responding, the minister said she had already directed that the two conjoined twins be transferred to the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam for check-up.
The issue was raised following the death of Maria and Consolata, the conjoined twins who passed away on Saturday aged 22.
Earlier, deputy minister Dr. Faustine Ndugulile urged pregnant mothers to develop the culture of attending clinics to ensure proper development of the fetus.
He was responding to a question raised by Chadema special seat legislator, Zubeda Sakuru who wanted to know attention given to premature babies by the government.
