The situation in Burundi is tense as the ruling party and its allies are still in control of political life, it has been reported.
AFP reports that the tension indicates that the country is not ready for elections.
The media quotes that UN representative in Burundi warning that Burundi is not ready to hold credible elections.
Michel Kafando told the UN Security Council that only the majority party and some other allied political groups are able to conduct unobstructed political activities.
"Such a situation cannot be suitable for the organization of credible elections," he said.
In 2015 Burundi was plunged into crisis when Pierre Nkurunziza's successful bid for re-election to a third term sparked protests by opposition supporters who said the move was unconstitutional.
