The main opposition party, Chadema, has said it is has been dismayed by a wave of defections by its cadres to the ruling CCM.
The party claims that the by-elections, which are necessitated by the defections, have been eating a chunk of task payers’ money.
The party was responding to a recently defection by Serengeti Member of Parliament Mr Chacha Ryoba (Chadema to the ruling party.
“We are nearly holding by-elections every month…this isn’t only unhealthy to Chadema but also to all Tanzanians, who pay taxes,” said Mr John Mrema, the party’s director of protocol, communication and foreign affairs.
He added, “ we haven’t received official statement from the MP…we have tried to reach but his phones are switched off; we have learnt it from the social media.”
Mr Mrema added that the party decided not to participate in the by-elections because the by-elections have been costly.
