Tanzania's famous hip-hop artiste Joseph Mbilinyi who was elected Seven years ago as the lawmaker for Mbeya Urban Constituency has been sentenced to 5 months in jail for using bad 'bad words' against President John Magufuli.
The lawmaker is currently serving his second term as the MP in Mbeya Urban Constituency on CHADEMA ticket.
The judgment has been was delivered today early Tuesday by the Mbeya Resident Magistrate’s Court after finding Mbilinyi guilty of an offense for uttering ‘bad words’ against President John Magufuli at a political rally.
The judgment sent the social media outlets into a frenzy Monday.
The presiding Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. Msiko Mteite sent the controversial MP in prison after having been satisfied by the evidence tendered before the court during the hearing.
Also, the same court has imposed a penalty of five-month imprisonment to the Secretary of opposition Chadema party in the Southern Highland zone Mr. Emmanuel Masonga for the same offense.
The two politicians were said to have committed the offense on December 30th, 2017 at Mwenge Primary school grounds in Mbeya city while addressing the political rally.
He is the second high profile opposition politician to be sentenced to serve a jail term since president Magufuli took office in 2015 after the MP for Kilombero Peter Lijualikali was sentenced to 6 months in jail in January 2017 for causing chaos during 2015 election.
He was later released after winning an appeal.
