Mashatile says as Ramaphosa must lead the movement just as South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma took over from former president Thabo Mbeki as his deputy.

SA’s African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng chairperson Paul Mashatile says Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa must lead the party after its elective conference in December.

Mashatile says as Ramaphosa must lead the movement just as President Jacob Zuma took over from former president Thabo Mbeki as his deputy.

The Gauteng chairperson says the party must emerge stronger from the conference and must continue to work with the SACP, Cosatu and Sanco.

“We need a leadership collective of men and women, young and old, so don’t tell us that it’s time for a woman president, no. If it's a capable woman to lead the ANC that's fine but don't tell us it's time for a woman and the men must shift.”
