Sterling failed to train with the Man City squad last week in the build up to Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
While there had been some hope the England international would be fit in time for the Gunners game, Sterling will not be available on Sunday.
The forward has a hamstring injury which is beginning to feel a lot worse than originally predicted.
Man City star out vs Arsenal & Chelsea
Man City’s next three matches are against Arsenal in the League Cup final, Arsenal on Thursday night in the Premier League, and Chelsea at home next Sunday in the EPL.
That’s a hectic schedule for Pep Guardiola. And it’s now complicated by Sterling’s injury blow. The Times report:
Raheem Sterling is out of today’s Carabao Cup final after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.
He is also expected to miss City’s next Premier League fixture on Thursday, also against Arsenal, and faces a battle to recover for a showdown with Chelsea next Sunday.
Sterling has scored 20 goals for Man City this season.
Gabriel Jesus is back
The only injury upside for Guardiola is that Gabriel Jesus is now back.
It’s unclear whether Jesus will start at Wembley against Arsenal, or more likely he’ll begin the final on the bench.
Aymeric Laporte at left-back?
As Man City fans consider how Guardiola will line up his team in the double-header against Arsenal and for the Chelsea game, a new suggestion has arison regarding defender Aymeric Laporte.
Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, who has close connections inside Man City, has suggested Laporte could be used at left-back.
