After Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud agreed a deal with Chelsea, discussion are also going on for the gunners to sign defender David Luiz as part of the negotiations for Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal have been busy in the January transfer market and have already secured deals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Alexis Sanchez has been allowed to depart the Emirates, while Olivier Giroud completes a move to Chelsea.
However, Italian reporter Emanuele Giulianelli has suggested negotiations will not be straightforward with Arsene Wenger wanting David Luiz included in a swap deal.
The Frenchman is said to be keen to strengthen his defence and is holding out for deadline-day deals for Luiz or West Brom’s Jonny Evans.
“Arsenal: Wenger wants either Jonny Evans or a swap for David Luiz before deadline,” Giulianelli wrote on Twitter.
However, it looks unlikely the Brazil international will be heading to the Emirates with negotiations for Giroud already well advanced.
Chelsea are said to have agreed a £17.5million deal for the striker on an 18 month contract with the option of a further year.
And Wenger could suffer a double blow on deadline day with reports suggesting West Brom are confident of holding onto Evans.
Sky Sports reporter Kirsty Edwards spoke to Baggies boss Alan Pardew this morning and he was adamant the former Manchester United man would bot be leaving the Hawthorns.
“He is confident that they will keep hold of captain Jonny Evans today,” Edwards said
“At one point West Brom were willing to listen to offers for him in this transfer window.
“They thought they may need the money to bring in a striker.
“But of course, as they’ve brought in Daniel Sturridge on loan, they no longer need that money, they want to keep hold of Evans.
Pardew said if he was a betting man he certainly wouldn’t be putting any money on Evans leaving the club today.
“He did though say he isn’t used to having deadline days that are uneventful.
“So he will be keeping his phone very close by today; he’s really hoping it doesn’t ring.”
