Arsenal transfer news: Gunners hold talks with Brazilian starlet Maycon
ARSENAL have reportedly held talks with Corinthians over a move for midfielder Maycon.
Is Maycon on his way to Arsenal?
The Gunners were linked with Maycon in 2016 shortly after he had made his debut for the Brazilian side but no move materialised.
The 20-year-old has remained at Corinthians to gain experience but is yet to be capped at senior national level by Brazil.
But it appears Arsenal are ready to re-ignite their interest in the midfielder.
According to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, Maycon has been the subject of talks with Arsenal and it is claimed the player is keen on the Premier League side.
The report says Arsenal will face competition for Maycon from Napoli and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Arsenal have overhauled their scouting and transfer negotiation team in recent months.
Sven Mislintat was appointed head of recruitment and joined in December from Borussia Dortmund.
And the German was instrumental in the signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January.
Spaniard Raul Sanllehi joined in February as head of football relations and will deal specifically with player negotiations.
Arsenal are favourites to sign Maycon
He said: “Extremely excited about this new project in my life. Very happy to be at the club, one of the top clubs in Europe. A club that everyone looks at. It was a no-brainier to join and very thankful for the opportunity. Someone asked me, ‘Why did I join Arsenal?’ I said, ‘Who wouldn’t!’
“When Ivan explained the ideas he has got for the club and the people he wants to bring in, it was impossible to turn it down.
“Talked a lot about the great people that Arsenal have who dedicate their lives to the club and there is so much love.”
