Tanzania’s football giant Azam fc started their pre-season preparations on a 1-1 dour-draw with KCCA in Kampala, Uganda.
The Kagame champions have made several signing this summer, with Daniel Amoah - from Ghana - joining on an undisclosed transfer fee.
The two sides played to a goalless draw in the first half and it was in the second stanza when substitute Lawrence Bukenya broke the deadlock to give the Kasasiro boys a lead with a long range strike from outside the box in the 74th minute.
However, the home side fell to the visitors’ pressure before conceding a late goal in the 92nd minute from Masoud Abdallah’s exquisite free kick.
On Sunday, Azam will face Ondurapaka and the following day windup the camp with a game against Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in a friendly match which promises to be more entertaining.
Azam FC who will not play any Confederation of Africa (CAF) games this year are in the process of strengthening their squad ahead of the domestic league.
The team which is regarded as one of the richest in East and Central Africa has also played a strength testing games against Mbeya city, Lipuli and Njombe mji.
This year the club has lost nearly half of their first team players, it has lost their record scorer John Bocco, Shomary Kapombe, Erasto Naomi, Aishi Manila who all joined with Simba SC.
However, the team has beefed up the squad by signing Mbaraka Muhammad who was one of the best scorers last season.
