Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is set to miss the El Clasico with Barcelona this weekend, in which could seal the La Liga title race before 2018.
Barcelona have benefitted this season from the poor form of their La Liga rivals Real Madrid, while Atletico Madrid are still a bit off top spot.
Atletico Madrid may not have lost a game this season, same as Barcelona, but they have drawn six games which has kept them from charging down top spot.
That has left them six points behind Barcelona, with Real Madrid 11 points behind their opponents this weekend.
If Real Madrid were to lose the game, it could rule them out of the title race with a 14 point lead simply too much to ask for unless Barcelona simply implode.
Ronaldo a doubt?
One player who can always turn a game around is Cristiano Ronaldo but he could now be ruled out of the game.
The Portugal star is now a doubt for the game having missed first-team training on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
While reports suggest he took part in a light session today, that still does not bode well ahead of possibly the biggest game of the season.
Real Madrid are no doubt stronger with Ronaldo and the Ballon d’Or winner could even be the match winner.
Now, without him, you certainly wouldn’t bet on Barcelona making their advantage count.
