FORMER Yanga SC and Pamba FC defender Athumani Juma Chama has passed away yesterday at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) where he was admitted for the stroke.
Chama Joined Yanga 1981 from Pamba FC of Mwanza and nicknamed Chama originated from Zambian full back Dick Chama who was very popular in Zambia from year 1967 to 77.
The wall of Yanga by that time was formed by Athumani Juma Chama and former TFF President Leodger Chillah Tenga and midfielder was Yanga Secretary general Charles Mkwasa.
Zamoyoni Mogela said today that the football family is going through a hard time now as they lost a very important footballer. Chama is expected to be buried today in Dar es Salaam.
‘’It is very sad Chama was my friend, we fight on the ground but in real life we were friends, my God rest his soul,’’ he said.
Other players who played with Chama were Joseph Fungo, Yussuf Ismail Bana, Ahmed Amasha ‘Mathematician’, Isihaka Hassan Chukwu, Juma Mukambi ‘Jenerali’, Hussein Iddi, Abeid Mziba ‘JJ Masiga’, Elisha John, Ali Mchumila, Makumbi Juma ‘Homa ya jiji’, Omar Hussein ‘Keegan’ and Juma Kampala.
