Cristiano Ronaldo's comments sent Real Madrid supporters into a panic over his future, however, Gareth Bale also speculated that he too may not be at Los Blancos by the time the new season starts, unless he is given star billing.

The Welsh international's brace was hugely important in the club's triumph in Kiev, yet it must be remembered that he started the match on the bench.

This is a player who would be valued at over 100 million euros in the current market, though he's very much been an afterthought for Zinedine Zidane over the course of the campaign.

His agent, Jonathan Barnett, is aware of his client's unhappiness and will meet with the club's hierarchy in the coming days to figure out a way to move forward.

Relations between the English agent and the European champions are positive, although they meeting does promise to be potentially tense.

Bale has reached a point in his career where he simply won't tolerate not being first choice, something he made abundantly clear on Saturday night.

"I need to be playing week in, week out," he explained in an interview with BT Sport.

"This hasn't happened this season.

"I have to sit down with my agent in the summer and discuss the situation."

It has been discussed previously that the club could sell the Welshman, and as recently as February it was considered that he would depart in the summer.

Since that moment he's found form and actually finished the season as Los Blancos' second highest goal-scorer.

The wishes of the player are merely sporting, he isn't looking for a pay rise or a contract extension, he simply wants assurances that he'll be given star status at the club once more.

He wants to play every single match, and it was telling that he celebrated both goals in Kiev on Saturday in such an enthusiastic way, something that we haven't seen from him for a while.

Zidane's treatment of Bale has been something which has troubled the forward, but he hasn't suffered an injury in 2018 and feels as though he should be on par with Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
