Fred admits his move to United could be finalized on Monday.
MEN Sport previously reported that Fred's agent, Fabio Melo, will hold talks with United to put the final touches to the £52m deal.
Fred came on as a substitute in Brazil's 2-0 win against Croatia at Anfield on Sunday and after the game, eagle-eyed United fans spotted he was in Manchester by the location of his tweet.
Hours earlier, the 25-year-old stopped in the mixed zone for reporters present in the tunnel post-match and here is a transcript of the brief exchange after Fred was asked about moving to United.
Fred: "I am entirely focused on the training sessions here. I’m leaving these topics to my agent."
Reporter: "If it could be solved tomorrow (Monday) then great, right?"
Fred (laughing): "Who knows? It can be but I’m very focused here."
United have prioritized a replacement for retired skipper Michael Carrick this summer and Fred is expected to play in a three-man midfield alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba next season.
The midfielder has evolved under current boss Paulo Fonseca and has been a self-proclaimed 'conductor' in the heart of Shakhtar's midfield.
Unlike predecessor Mircea Lucescu, Fonseca has not relied on Shakhtar's full-backs to create, which often forced Fred to sit in, and the Brazilian has flourished as more of a playmaker.
Fred won 10 trophies in his time in Ukraine and has a big-game pedigree, having played against United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG, Man City, Napoli and Roma in the Champions League.
