Good for Arsenal: Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho deal revealed

The morning after Philippe Coutinho scored his first Champions League hat-trick for Liverpool, the Spanish press are touting the Brazilian’s move to Barcelona.

How many more months will Liverpool fans have to endure all this transfer speculation?

Coutinho and Barcelona were close to a summer deal, save for one important point. Liverpool refused to sell their South American star regardless of the price.

Yet, since the summer the Coutinho-Barcelona rumours have failed to vanish. In fact, the rumours are getting far louder as the January window gets ready to open.

On front page of Thursday’s Mundo Deportivo, readers are told it’s “now or never” for Barcelona to sign Coutinho.

Behind the headlines, MD again shout that Coutinho is Barca’s priority signing this winter.

Moreover, it’s claimed Coutinho may agree a five-year deal with Barcelona, while it’s claimed the player has already agreed personal terms with the Catalans.

Of course, the bigger issue is still whether Liverpool will sell their star.

The 25-year-old Brazilian is under contract at Anfield until 2022, and right now he’s hitting some incredible form.

Mundo Deportivo tell their readers Barcelona are confident of closing a 145 million euro deal with Liverpool for Coutinho. But it’s highly questionable whether that will be enough to convince Liverpool to sell.

One name completely absent from the Mundo Deportivo update is Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.

Ozil is able to leave Arsenal for free in the summer when his contract expires. And there had been talk in recent weeks that Ozil could head to Barcelona if Coutinho proves to be out of reach.

Yet that story now seems to have faded away, which could suggest Ozil may stay at Arsenal after all. On Wednesday, the Sun told their readers:

There is still hope he may yet stay and pen a new deal – expected to be for three years – before the end of the month.

Emirates insiders have suggested a stunning breakthrough in negotiations is “very, very close.”
