Paris Saint-Germain were interested in signing N’Golo Kante last summer, but a discussion with Antonio Conte was key to his decision to join Chelsea.
Kante enjoyed a spectacular debut campaign in England in 2015/16, as he helped Leicester City to Premier League glory. The France international then became Conte’s first signing in west London.
The transfer has proven to be an exceptional as Kante again lifted the Premier League title this season.
He boasted the best pass accuracy (89%) of any regular Blues starter, while also making more interceptions (83) than any teammate. He won 41% of his duels in the Premier League this season – down 5% on his 2015/16 rate while at Leicester.
Kante has now revealed that he had the opportunity to return to his homeland last summer, but turned down a move to PSG – a choice he doesn’t regret.
The 26-year-old told Le Parisien, “It is true that the PSG were there like the other clubs after my beautiful season in Leicester. But I chose Chelsea after talking with the coach and the sporting director. And I do not regret it. In addition, I like the league and the style of play in England.”
