JOSE MOURINHO has claimed he left Real Madrid because he was unhappy at the Bernabeu and suggested talk of a move to Barcelona in 2008 was true.

Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid in 2013 after three mediocre seasons in charge at the Bernabeu to return to Chelsea.

Despite winning the 2011/12 La Liga title, Real largely played second fiddle to Barcelona during Mourinho's tenure.

And the 54-year-old has revealed personal reasons were a huge factor in him leaving the Spanish capital where he had grown unhappy.

“It was my decision, my daughter wanted to stay at the University of London and I thought it was the right moment to leave," Mourinho told French TV station telefoot.
