Midfielder Milinkovic-Savic came off the bench and had a hand in Fulham striker Aleksandr Mitrovic's clincher in a 2-0 Serbia win.

Milinkovic-Savic was on United's radar during the summer but remained at Lazio and has since signed a new deal until 2023.

Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, 21, is the other Serbia player to have caught Mourinho's eye while United midfielder Nemanja Matic had been ruled out of the game due to injury.

Milinkovic-Savic said: “I am a Lazio player but it is obvious that I was pleased that a coach of his stature came to watch the match.

“I read a little bit everywhere he was here at the stadium to see me play, but that does not mean anything. Maybe he was not here for me, but for someone else.”

Mourinho was reportedly also keeping an eye on defender Milenkovic.

The 20-year-old, who plays his club football with Fiorentina, has been dubbed the next Nemanja Vidic.
