Lionel Messi: Barcelona star pushes for signing ahead of Real Madrid - report

LIONEL MESSI has told Barcelona to sign Thiago Alcantara before Real Madrid do

Alcantara has impressed at Bayern Munich having left Barca in 2013.

And, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Messi is keen to see him back at the Nou Camp.

It’s suggested other senior figures in the Barca dressing room are similarly enthusiastic about Ernesto Valverde securing his services.

Barca aren’t the only heavyweights vying for his services though - and that’s got Messi worried.

Real Madrid are also sniffing around as they look to bolster their midfield options.

Alcantara has racked up 96 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern, scoring 12 goals.

Los Blancos appointed Julen Lopetegui on Monday.

He was supposed to take the reins after leading Spain at the World Cup.

But the Spanish FA took a dim view of his involvement with Real and he was dismissed from his position.

Lopetegui already has an affiliation with Los Blancos.

He managed Real Madrid Castilla from 2008 - 2009 before working as Spain’s U19, U20 and U21 head coach.
