Liverpool boss Klopp: This is what Manchester United fan thinking after CL draw

Jurgen Klopp has described the Champions League showdown with Manchester City is a dream draw – for Manchester United fans!

The Liverpool boss admitted he expected to be pulled out of the hat against his English rivals for the quarter finals, and he was not disappointed.

"I think it is an absolute dream draw – for Manchester United fans," he said with a smile. "I really don't mind we will have plenty of time to prepare before then.

"Yes so I didn't expect anything I didn't wish anything, I don't think it's good in the Champions' League if you play against a team from own country, but at one point it's pretty clear you will play them.

"It didn't matter who we got, I knew it would be difficult. And it's difficult. Manchester City will be difficult. It doesn't look like Christmas and Easter in same day. It's the last eight in Europe and if that would be easy then something is wrong."

Klopp insisted he has plenty of time to prepare for the game, with the first leg played at Anfield on April 4.

And he explained that one of his prime emotions is anger – but not because of the draw, rather because of the decision to switch the Mersey derby to a 12.30 lunch time kick off for TV, just three days after that first leg.

"I am already angry because I heard the Premier League will put our game v Everton to 12.30 on Saturday," he said.

"Sometimes, the associations will cancel the fixture to help, but not in this case. We play Wednesday night v Man City and then play Everton at 12.30 three days later. I heard only a few minutes ago. Not too cool, but we do it the hard way."

Asked if it gave him extra time to prepare for the second leg, he added: "No it doesn't give us extra time, we play Wednesday night and then we play 12.30.

"It is not perfect, we take it like it is, but if I can not be angry about something like this, if I have to be politically correct, then it is nothing."

Klopp insisted he had no expectations or hopes for the draw, but he did admit to a feeling that the two English clubs would be drawn together.

"I've said it before and it's still the truth, it's always common in a draw that you'll get your neighbour, more or less, but to be honest I don't mind, really," he said.

"It is exactly like it was before – we take what we've got. Now it's Manchester City, let's go.

"We've lost once and we've won once against them in the league – and I don't think they thought before the best draw they could have got is Liverpool. That's a sign for us and how strong we can be."

The manager did concede though that City are clearly favourites for the tie, and the bookies agree, making them the outright favourites to lift the Champions' League.

"We are for sure not the favourites in this round, but in the last eight there are not a lot of favourites - maybe two of them, Bayern and Barcelona – but thank god it's football and nothing is decided," he said.

"I am really looking forward to it and we will give it everything. Being at home in the first leg, in this case, it’s not too important. For us, it's completely normal. We can get a result at home for sure, but it's obviously a difficult game – but good news for both teams.

"It is like it is should be in the last eight. It was clear we would face a strong team. Now we have Man City. The good thing is they are the team we know most about. It’s not too cool for England because now only one team can go to the semis. But we will try everything."

Klopp also provided an insight into the reaction of Manchester City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain as the two English teams were drawn from the hat on Friday.

"I saw Begiristain's face after the draw and he didn't look like it was Christmas," said the Liverpool boss.

"There will be a point where I'm looking forward to that game. But I'm already angry as the Everton game has been moved to 12:30pm on Saturday.

"Now it's Wednesday night and Everton on Saturday morning."

Begiristain spoke out moments after the draw had been announced, and admitted his side have to be "almost perfect" to get a result over the Reds.

"It's a very difficult one. We like to travel and to go to another country in the Champions League but it is what it is," said Begiristain.

"We know each other very well, they are a very offensive team, the truth is it is going to be a great couple of games and we are going to see good football.

"We are doing well in the league but is the same as always, you have to be right, in the Champions League there is no time for mistakes, everything has to work, you have to be almost perfect in both games.

"We know the power and the strength of Liverpool - in the league they beat us, we beat them at home."
