The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Liverpool are keen to bring Gent and Nigerian winger Moses Simon to Anfield this summer as a backup for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Simon’s contract is set to expire next season and is reportedly going to cost any potential suitors around £10 million.
Liverpool spending spree
After losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final and finishing 4th in the Premier League, it was clear Liverpool needed to improve their squad this summer to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United.
And credit where credit is due, Liverpool are certainly looking to do so.
They have already agreed to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig earlier this year. The Reds would then sign holding midfielder Fabinho from Monaco for a fee of around £43 million.
Also, while a deal has not been agreed yet, Liverpool are very eager to bring Lyon’s Nabil Fekir to Anfield this summer.
Now it looks like Klopp is keen to reinforce Liverpool’s already dangerous front three.
This is a smart decisions from Klopp as while Salah and Mane are top quality players, they simply cannot play every game in every competition for Liverpool without, at some point, suffering and injury or not being 100%.
Simon is a very pacey skilful winger who can play in several positions including, left wing, right wing and as a secondary striker.
This makes him a great backup player for Mane, Salah and maybe even Firmino if necessary.
Simon has played 136 games for Gent and has scored 21 and assisted 18 in that time, a solid record for a 22-year-old.
So, if Liverpool do sign Simon, he looks as though he would be a great sub for Salah and Mane and for a relatively cheap price.
