Liverpool force Real Madrid to consider alternative method to sign Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea

Chelsea's failure to sign a replacement to Thibaut Courtois appears to have killed off any chances that he could leave Stamford Bridge to sign for Real Madrid this summer.

However, the reigning European champions are reportedly happy to wait with the Belgian still able to run down his contract with the Blues to leave at knock down fee, or for nothing, next year.

The 26-year-old has spoken of his desire to return to the Spanish capital, where he played for Atletico Madrid on loan for three seasons prior to moving to England to replace Petr Cech in goal and win two Premier League titles.

Alisson Becker's move to Liverpool may have ruined his chances of securing a deal to join Real, however. Chelsea are unwilling to discuss a sale unless they can replace Courtois, and the Brazilian was their number one target.

Other potential signings do not measure up against the Belgian, which means the Blues have little desire to the do business this summer.

Sport Witness claim that Marca are now reporting that Keylor Navas could continue on in goal for another season while Real wait until their target can walk away or force his way out on the cheap.

The LaLiga giants have also been linked to Eden Hazard this summer, but it seems increasingly unlikely that he will leave, although the winger is expected to sit down with new head coach Maurizio Sarri to discuss his future this week, after the Community Shield clash with Manchester City.
